SAANICH, BC - Community leader, business owner, and psychologist Dr. Lisa Gunderson is seeking the Vice President English position on the Green Party of Canada Federal Council.

Dr Gunderson announced the withdrawal of her nomination in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke on June 19, 2021, when she and her team determined that running for MP in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke was not the best path forward at this time.

However, another opportunity to serve the Green Party occurred much more quickly than anticipated, with many members at all levels, her team, and her family encouraging Dr Gunderson to run for a position on the Federal Council.

Recent events have affected Green candidates and members, and for Dr. Gunderson this experience has shown how important it is to do the work to build the Green Party.

“This is a critical moment for the Green Party of Canada and its future, and we need a Federal Council that can truly listen and work collaboratively for our party’s success,” says Dr. Gunderson.

“We can foster a sense of collaboration and unity around what brings us together as Greens and provide our members and fellow Canadians a real choice on doing politics differently - from the inside-out.”

Dr. Gunderson is deeply connected and committed to the people and communities around her, and stands up for social and racial justice and the environment. She founded One Love Consulting, which focuses on creating a more equitable and just society by providing consultations, training, and professional development opportunities.

For many years, Dr. Gunderson has been an active Green, serving as an equity consultant, pundit, spokesperson for proportional representation, campaign volunteer, riding association member, panelist, and member of the diversity/equity committee. She has also served on local and national boards and advisory committees.

Dr. Gunderson has a long record of community service, including as a member of multiple ethnic, parent, and civic organizations. Currently, she has an active role with the ACB-National Expert Working Group on the impacts of COVID-19 on African, Caribbean, and Black Communities (ACB), Saanich Council’s Planning, Transportation, and Economic Development Advisory Committee, and the Victoria Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils.

She is also a former board member of the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Center Society,  African Heritage Association of Vancouver Island (AHAVI) representative to the Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee, and served as a school representative to the Confederation of Parents' Advisory Councils of Saanich.

Dr. Gunderson is a first generation African-American and Canadian immigrant of Jamaican heritage who lives in Saanich with her two sons and partner of 24 years.

The campaign period for the Federal Council election takes place from June 28 to July 12. New members can sign up to vote until July 12. Online voting will begin on July 12 at 3:00pm EDT/12:00pm PDT and run until August 11. The results of the election will be announced by August 19, 2021.
