Dr Lisa Gunderson withdrawing from ESS nomination contest

After very serious consideration of recent events, I have decided not to move forward with the nomination contest in ESS.

I want to thank everyone for their support. There is a wonderful local team in place in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, and the EDA has been amazing. You have been welcoming and shown me nothing but grace. I have been heartened by the interest and enthusiasm for my nomination campaign from members across the riding.

I promised you that I would keep it real.

After very serious consideration of recent events, I have decided not to move forward with the nomination contest in ESS. I am concerned that recent events are not consistent with Green values. We built a nomination campaign on honesty, respect, and trust, and I will always demonstrate this style of leadership.

While I am disappointed that I am not continuing in the nomination contest, I remain committed to equity and the Green values of respect for diversity, social justice, sustainability, ecological wisdom, non-violence, and participatory democracy. These are the values that convinced me to put my name forward in the first place, and to serve our community. I want to use my time and energy to ensure that the party is steadfast in remaining a place where members can feel they are supported no matter what level they are in or position they hold.

I will now take the time to discuss my next steps with my family, team, colleagues, friends, and community.

To Nick and Harley, I wish you all the best in the campaign. It was a pleasure to run with you.

To my volunteers, I am very thankful for your support and for the hours you have spent planning communications, making phone calls, joining team gatherings and energizing all of us.  I am hoping you will continue to support me on the next political path I take. I look forward to our gatherings on Friday and Saturday.

I want to deeply thank my team who have sacrificed countless hours to collaboratively create a campaign that made people feel proud and excited to be part of the political process. People were able to bring their whole selves. We created a unique nomination campaign for anyone to model by adding youth and equity leads to the traditional leads and advisors.

Matt for our web design, Rachel for your team management, and Nathan for capturing my spirit onto film. To the amazing youth Emma-Jane and Grace, you are wonder twins. Youth have always rocked. Parker, thank you for giving equity the honour and respect it deserves and for letting me be a part of your table. Me-kon, Parker, and Moussa, your advice is invaluable and knowing you always have my back and keep it real..you are my family. Ryan, nothing but a communication wizard, thank you for always speaking your truth. Christina, only you know what we’ve been through and it is no understatement to say none of this would have been possible without you. I am deeply grateful for you and for how you were able to take my vision and make it a reality.

There will never be enough thanks. What a team - We will work together again!

Finally, to Avi, Dominic, Allen, and my sister Melanie - I thank you for your continuous love and support, advice, and belief in me….I could never and would never be able to do this without you. I love you always.
